Publish to a custom domain

How to connect a custom domain for your portals

By default, portals are published in a URL that looks like this: run.ply.io/XXXX. If you want to provide a branded and more trustworthy experience for your customers, you can publish portals to your own domain with a custom slug that would look something like this: portals.site.com/request

Read below to learn how to configure your domain and how to publish to it and choose a custom slug.

Publishing portals to a custom domain

After you publish your portal feature, open the share dialog. In it, click "Customize URL". You can then choose from your available domains and create a custom slug.

The original Ply URL (run.ply.io/XXXX) will continue to work even after you create your custom URL.

Embedding in other apps via automatic embed

If you’re embedding a portal in other apps via automatic embed (oEmbed / pasting a link to embed), use the Ply URL.

Connecting Your Custom Domain in Ply

This process can only be done by an admin

  1. Go to Settings > Custom domains and click "Add domain"

  2. Enter your domain

  3. Update your DNS settings through your domain registrar or DNS provider. See details below

Configuring your domain

In order to publish to your own domain, you'll need to configure your domain to work with Ply in your domain's DNS settings.

Update Your DNS Settings

For subdomains

For a subdomain like blog.example.com, add this record:

Comments about specific providers

Cloudflare

  1. Ensure the proxy is disabled and set to DNS only.

  2. To avoid the "err_too_many_redirects" error, set SSL/TLS to "Full" or "Full (strict)". Read more in this Vercel guide to configuring cloudflare managed domains to make sure your domain keeps working without any issues.

Vercel

  • Subdomain: approve the email from Vercel to connect.

  • Root Domain: use a subdomain or switch to another DNS provider like Cloudflare or GoDaddy.

Troubleshooting

If your domain isn't connected, try these:

  • Ensure new DNS records are added correctly.

  • Remove old DNS records for the same.

  • Wait up to 24 hours for propagation.
